Aqua per Capita is a project led by Jonee Kulman Brigham of Full Spring Studio in collaboration with Climb Theater, John Crampton of the Bush Lake Chapter Izaak Walton League of America, and other partners being confirmed. The project is an outdoor, participatory theater experience exploring the relationship of population to water use and the earth’s carrying capacity. The event will be held at the Bloomington Theatre and Art Center May 17th, 2014 from 1-4pm, in conjunction with the exhibition “Fruitful and Multiplying,” April 11 - May 30, 2014, curated by John Schuerman.

In the event, water per person (aqua per capita) is explored through playful interactions with water involving collecting, carrying, pouring, balancing, pumping, spraying, dividing, and sharing. Participants enter the world of a water play, engaging with actors and a story of place—past, present, and future. The water play explores both local and global contexts, looking at current, historical, and projected relationships between population and water in Bloomington and global population and water quality and access issues. While playful, the work aims to address serious issues by building empathy and understanding through first hand, physical and sensory experience. Resources for learning and acting on local and global population and water issues are provided.
The team is exploring future, place-specific adaptations for Aqua per Capita in other areas of Minnesota as a way to engage the public in dialogue about development pressures on local water quality and quantity issues to inspire constructive dialogue and action.
Fruitful and Multiplying will be exhibited at Bloomington Theatre and Art Center (BTAC), Inez Greenberg Gallery, April 11 - May 30, 2014.
